About Balin

Hello! I am a radio journalist working at 92.3 KTAR in Phoenix, Arizona. I have been pursuing a career in journalism for as long as I can remember and in my short time I've run the gambit: From photography and video to radio and podcasting to digital and print reporting. There is little else I am interested in than telling honest, important stories based in my community.

I am a recent first-generation college graduate and excelled in my journalism studies at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication (while juggling a few jobs, too!). Going to college on my own during COVID-19 was a massive challenge academically, mentally and financially…But here I am!

For the work at hand, I like covering just about anything. Though, I am interested in stories of exploitation and social justice. Specifically, I was homeless in high school and recognize the barriers people experiencing homeless face. I will ALWAYS pitch stories about homelessness until our society finds a meaningful way to end it.

…And if you're looking for a traveler, I am your guy! Traveling is my second love besides journalism and it is something I am pretty good at. I have lived in South Carolina, Missouri, Arizona and California during my short time. These situations of moving and uncertainty shaped my independent spirit and problem-solving skills, I was often left to my own devices.

But I know you're mostly here for this: What can I offer you? I can fit into just about any situation and I always say I thrive in uncomfortable situations. I have always had a natural ability to make friends with anyone on either side of the aisle, so to speak. I am a fast writer, and that has always been a strong suit of mine. But does me telling you this mean much? Probably not much! Please check out my works and see what you think. :)
